The “Elephant Path”

Visualization of 1 of the 9 stages of development in Tibetan meditation

Elephant Path

I was inspired, challenged and transformed taking a week-long meditation course from new and dear friend Daniel P. Brown. The week was spent learning along the 9 stages of meditative development, represented traditionally as a large painting; an overhead visualization, like a Monopoly game board, of the whole path with all the milestones, experiences and pitfalls along the way represented by various characters in a traditional Tibetan painting style. The metaphors in the picture, and the many more invoked in the teaching process, effectively and imaginatively articulate otherwise elusive states of mind. My plan is to explore this with my own art and animation and create a useful teaching technique as well as an entertaining introduction to growth through meditation.
